Why I Wrote Rising Lotuses

I started writing Rising Lotuses almost 3 years ago. I knew I couldn’t be the only one questioning my place in the world as a woman. To be more specific, as an Indian woman who immigrated to France and hit so many stereotypical ‘success’ goals, only to understand that there was something massively incomplete about my journey, my story, and the stories I recognised when I met so many women from different backgrounds from all around the world. I was lucky to work with my close friend, talented illustrator and creator Sadhvi Konchada, who brought life and liberating illustrations to this book.

Writing this book made me look at the world from radically different lenses. I had to dive deep into the roots of our past to understand systems that create barriers and the origins of normalising exploitative systems. Through the process, I emerged stronger with a blueprint for navigating the future. Through thought-provoking questions and uplifting illustrations, this book is your guide to overcoming obstacles and reclaiming your voice in shaping a more just, sustainable world. For far too long, women of the global majority have been silenced, misrepresented, or reduced to stereotypes. Rising Lotuses is my answer, a guide to healing, reclaiming, and redefining success on our terms. I offer this book as a guide, a co-conspirator, and a sister to help you reclaim your story and witness the collective joy of seeing all of us blossom.

In lands often misrepresented as the “third world,” women thrive amidst natural abundance, rich cultures, and resilient histories. Yet, these same lands are forced into roles as the factories of the so-called “developed” countries. Rising Lotuses challenge these narratives, urging women to reclaim their ancestral wisdom and reimagine success on their terms through a lens of feminist leadership.
